Borzois are generally healthy breed, but like all large, deep-chested sighthounds, they are prone to certain genetic and structural health issues. You should be aware of conditions like bloat, joint concerns, and certain heart or eye conditions.
Borzois require a high-quality diet rich in animal protein, moderate healthy fats, and controlled calcium to support their lean muscle mass and prevent skeletal issues during rapid growth. As deep-chested dogs, they are highly prone to life-threatening bloat (GDV) and require specific feeding routines
In order to maintain their long, silky coat, borzoi need to be groomed on a regular basis. This includes brushing with a pin brush two to three times a week (daily during heavy, twice-yearly shedding seasons) to avoid mats. They shed moderately to heavily, although if kept in good condition, their coat hardly ever mats. They need regular nail cutting, frequent ear cleaning, and monthly baths.
Borzoi training requires patience, consistency, and a partnership approach. Because these sighthounds are independent thinkers, you cannot force them to do anything; rather, you must convince them that obeying is rewarding. Keep sessions short (2 to 3 minutes), use positive reinforcement, and avoid harsh discipline
