Caring for a Borzoi

Health

As a deep-chested giant breed, Borzoi carry meaningful bloat risk. Cardiomyopathy and, given the breed's low body fat, anesthesia sensitivity are also worth discussing with a vet.

Nutrition

A quality diet in measured portions, with meals split to help reduce bloat risk; the breed's naturally lean build is normal.

Grooming

The silky, wavy coat needs regular brushing to prevent matting.

Training

Reserved with strangers but rarely aggressive — calm and independent, Borzoi need only moderate daily exercise but do need secure fencing given real sighthound speed and prey drive.

About the breed

A Russian sighthound historically bred by nobility to course wolves and hares across open steppe.

Regal and calm, Borzoi are quiet housedogs that need little from their owners beyond comfortable naps and occasional sprints.
