Because the Porcelaine was reconstructed from a limited gene pool after nearly becoming extinct, working with a responsible breeder who performs health screenings is particularly important.
Hip dysplasia can be concerning, as it is for the majority of medium-sized to large dogs. Ocular (eye) disorders may also occur in the breed.
Prospective owners can get the knowledge they require to understand certain health issues within the breed by working with competent breeders.
The Porcelaine should thrive on premium dog food, whether it is created at home under the guidance and approval of your veterinarian or is produced commercially.
Any diet should be suitable for the dog's age (adult, elderly, or puppy). Keep an eye on your dog's weight and calorie intake because certain dogs are prone to becoming overweight.
Giving too many treats can lead to obesity, even though they can be a useful training assistance.
Your Porcelaine will stay clean and look its best with the occasional bath in addition to routine weekly grooming.
To prevent overgrowth, splitting, and cracking, the robust, quickly developing nails should be routinely cut with a nail clipper or grinder.
To prevent wax and debris accumulation, which can lead to infection, their ears should be examined on a frequent basis. Regular brushing of the teeth is recommended.
Begin training and socialization as soon as you bring your puppy home. Use positive reinforcement methods with small, tasty treats, praise, or playtime, as this breed does not respond well to harsh corrections or punishment.
Consistency and patience are essential for successful training.
House training is usually straightforward with a regular schedule, and Porcelaines are generally easy to crate train
About Porcelaine Puppies
The breed’s name, which means “porcelain” in French, refers to its stunning white coat that shines like polished china. The Porcelaine is believed to descend from the English Harrier, Swiss Laufhounds, and the now-extinct Montaimboeuf breed. Records of the breed exist in France since 1845 and in Switzerland since 1880.
The breed disappeared after the French Revolution (1789–1799) but was carefully reconstructed during the mid-19th century by Swiss breeders. Today, the Porcelaine remains relatively rare, with most dogs found in France and Switzerland.
